Summary
After Carla and Gonzalo’s breakup, Gonzalo’s friends moved his things out of the little room. Vicente began spending time there and eventually took “it for himself” (208). Although he did not “especially [value] books,” Vicente was hurt that Gonzalo had taken his books from the room (209). He had only left two behind. Following Darkness’s death, Vicente began “restoring the lost library,” collecting books to fill the space (211). When he was 14 and dating Virginia, she helped him organize the books. After their breakup, Vicente retreated “into the little room” (214). He assured Carla he was okay and would “get past this” himself (214). He turned to poetry, finding “a kind of truth” (215). Eventually reading poetry turned into writing poetry. When he showed his poems to Carla, she worried. She tried talking to Vicente about Gonzalo’s absence, but he refused to speak...
