Summary

In Chapter 19, Flint wakes them the next morning, saying he is searching for Rowan. He takes her to the interrogation room where she discovers Lark is being held captive. Rowan is furious that they are beating up Lark. Lark says she is from a group known as the Edge, which Flint dismisses as “deluded do-gooders” (Location 2495). Lark angrily responds that they are trying to help second children. Lark says she told trusted members of the Edge about Rowan, which disappoints Rowan. Lark says she was in the algae spire and saw Rowan. Rowan wants to believe it is true, but wonders if it is possible. Flint makes it clear he plans to kill Lark to keep her from telling anyone about the cavern. Rowan fights that. Lark reveals that Ash has been arrested and that Rowan's father is responsible for the arrest.
