Summary

In Chapter 16, Rowan is torn between relief the ordeal is over and fury that they subjected her to it. Another man named Flint is in charge. Lachlan says the children who live in this underground part of Eden are a family and have been here their entire lives. Lachlan and others seek them out at a young age, or even before birth, raising them underground. The responsibility of everyone with contact in the outside world is to protect this family. Though Flint was the one who interrogated her, Rowan is angry that Lachlan let it happen. Lachlan reaches for her hand but she refuses as a show of her continued anger.
