Summary
In Chapter 35, Inan travels through the desert alone to Ibeji, distraught over the death of Kaea. He follows the psychic “scent” of Zelie to the hut where the trio stayed, but finds it empty.
In Chapter 36, the trio arrives at a river in the jungle and stops to swim and play in the water. Zelie has a vision of Inan, and she urges the others to get on Nailah so they can flee. She changes her mind when she realizes Inan is alone. She stops and they talk. Amari tries to convince Inan to join them, but he attacks Zelie instead.
In Chapter 37, Amari and Tzain try to keep Zelie and Inan from killing one another, but then Amari and Tzain are captured by a group of masked figures.
