Summary
In Chapter 60, the protagonist fails out of school again. During the nights, he has trauma-induced dreams about his time in Iraq. He begins to see a psychiatrist, but only briefly. Emily goes through a drug detox program, but after the detox, Emily starts injecting heroin again. They have to get rid of the marijuana they are growing after a state inspector is scheduled to inspect their apartment. In Chapter 61, the protagonist and Emily begin having intense verbal arguments very often. In the fall, they return to school, and the protagonist continues to use student loan money for heroin. In Chapter 62, Emily and the protagonist run out of money.
The protagonist begins to make money by helping Raul with robberies. Their first robbery is in a bank, and they manage to complete the robbery without being caught. Emily does not object to the protagonist making...
