Summary

In Chapter 47, the protagonist returns to school so that he can use student loan money to buy drugs. The protagonist and Libby continue to date, and Libby develops deep feelings for the protagonist. She says that she wants to marry him, and she becomes upset when he does not reciprocate the sentiment. The protagonist’s drug addiction continues to worsen, and he begins to use heroin. In Chapter 48, the protagonist begins to become more acquainted with drug dealers around town. He meets Libby’s family but later begins trying to distance himself from Libby. In Chapter 49, the protagonist encounters Zoe again, and they go back to the protagonist’s apartment to have sex. Libby sees this and enters the apartment after Zoe leaves.
