Summary
The narrator hated when people comment on her reading habits. She often lashed out when someone did so. When she “was a student in London,” a man told her her defensiveness was immature (101). The man also told her it was odd she was not married. Although she made her own money, the narrator sometimes wished she had married a man with money when she was younger (102). However, conversations like these always made her feel trapped. She realized women are often made to feel like they are losing their minds (103).
After reading A Room with a View, the narrator arranged a trip to Italy with friends. Throughout the trip, she tried to channel Lucy Honeychurch.
