The Greenleaf House

The Greenleaf household is chaotic given the endless demands of twelve-year-old Darcy and fourteen-year-old Sabrina, which Mallory must meet. After Dad’s death and Mom’s illness, Mallory serves as head of the house, cooking meals and making the most important decisions. The Greenleafs live in suburban New York.

Marcus Sawyer’s apartment

Nolan lives in his grandfather Marcus Sawyer’s apartment. Mallory sees it for the first time the day she takes care of Nolan when he is sick. She describes, “Nolan’s apartment is a duplex three times larger than my house, a giant expanse of uncluttered spaces, wide windows, hardwood floors, and bookshelves” (117). Mal falls in love with the apartment at once and claims exudes Nolan’s essence. In the epilogue, the couple live together in this apartment.
