Survival Suit

Tess puts on an orange survival suit during the storm that tears apart her sailboat, Querencia. The suit protects Tess from the elements long enough for Charlie to find her and because of its bright color that Charlie is able to see her from a distance.

Maps and Star Charts

Charlie uses maps and star charts to figure out exactly what time sundown will come each day and how far he can travel and still return to the cemetery in time to see Sam each day.

Tess's Note

Tess leaves Charlie a note when she begins to fade that asks him to come find her. At first Charlie thinks this is an invitation to commit suicide, but later realizes it is a plea for Charlie to rescue her from the sea.
