Summary
In Chapter 11, Charlie enters a nearby store with his dollar bill, and buys a candy bar which he devors quickly. The store-keeper is amused by Charlie’s behavior, even moreso when Charlie requests one more bar hesitantly. Charlie picks it up, tears off the wrapper, and sees a flash of gold. Suddenly, a whirlwind of activity ensues. The store-keeper shouts, “The kid’s found the last Golden Ticket!” (50), and passersby are drawn to the scene in excitement, offering to buy the ticket off of him. The store-keeper intervenes leading a dazed Charlie to the door and sending him on his way with some advice: Don’t you let anybody have it!” (51) Charlie, still mute, nods and runs home.
