Cortana

Cortana is Cordelia's blade and symbolizes Cordelia's strength. When Cortana is strong and healed by Wayland the Smith, Cordelia feels confident and powerful. When Cortana is sworn to Lilith by mistake, Cordelia feels weak and unsure of herself. When Cortana stings to the touch and does not respond to her movements, Cordelia feels helpless and powerless. Thus, the blade influences and in turn reflects Cordelia's state of mind throughout the novel. Effectively, when she is her most confident self, Cordelia wields her blade with much greater efficacy and is more successful with it overall.
