Idris
Idris is a country built for and by Shadowhunters. In Idris lies the Shadowhunter capitol of Alicante, as well as numerous of the most famous Shadowhunter families' mansions and summer houses. James Herondale recalls throughout the book the many summers he spent in Idris in his lifetime, particularly those at his family's house which neighbors the Blackthorns' home. It is by proximity to the Blackthorns' property that James becomes acquainted with Grace, falls in love with her, and becomes deeply embroiled in her family's dark secrets. Idris is also the location where the Consul travels to deal with Elias Carstair's trial. It is a sort of 'home away from home' for many of the members of the London Enclave, deeply connected as it is to the families' histories.
