Loretta Thurwar

Loretta Thurwar is a stoic, ruthless killer broadly known for her unprecedented success in the Chain-Gang All-Stars arena. At the beginning of the novel, she is ranked Grand Colossal, and is only a few fights away from finally securing her freedom. She is beloved to the viewers of the program for her dramatic victory over the famous Melancholia Bishop and, despite her disavowal of the sport that she is forced to play, often finds herself looking to curry favor with the fanbase.

Thurwar's straightforward convictions about securing her freedom are frustrated when she is made aware that she will need to kill her best friend and romantic partner, Hamara "Hurricane Staxxx" Stacker, in order to secure her freedom from the CAPE program.
