Summary

In a large gladiatorial arena called the BattleGround, officiated by a man named Micky Wright, Loretta Thurwar prepares for a battle to the death. Her opponent is Melancholia Bishop, the winningest fighter in the history of hard action-sport, and the fight is ostensibly Melancholia’s last before she is freed from bondage. Melancholia has an opportunity to kill Thurwar early in the fight, but instead she spares Thurwar’s life. Thurwar manages to kill Melancholia, stunning the crowd.

Some time after successfully killing Melancholia, Thurwar has become the new Grand Colossal of the Chain-Gang All-Stars, the group of convicts who fight at the BattleGround for the entertainment of the public. The Grand Colossal is the Link, or prisoner, closest to being freed. Thurwar watches a woman named Harima Stacker, who goes by “Hurricane Staxxx,” fight Barry “Rave Bear” Harris.
