Cayro, Georgia, 1980s

Cayro is a small fictional town in Georgia, situated north of Atlanta and close to Marietta. In many ways, Cayro is a typical small southern town. It has a few small businesses, few job opportunities, and the massive influence of religion. Most of the residents are Christians and attend a church at least occasionally. The town is also quite politically and socially conservative, especially on issues related to gender and race. Many of the residents are poor or working class. In many ways the town is emblematic of the Southern Gothic genre.
