Summary
In Chapter 23, Amara visited her mother and Aunt Laila in Harlem. She wanted to speak with Laila about her connection to the Melancons. Laila became distraught at the questions and began yelling when Amara mentioned Landon. She knew that Amara was pregnant years ago because she had smelled the shift in her scent that day at the church. When Denise returned to find them arguing on the floor, Laila told her to ask Laila about her pregnancy. Denise helped Laila back up the stairs, assuming that she was having another grief induced episode.
