Summary
Birdie sorts through the box her father left her, which he has labeled “Negrobilia.” It contains some items that seem to have been collected at the last minute, including a black Barbie head, an Egyptian necklace Deck had bought Birdie some time back, a James Brown eight-track tape, and a hair pick with a handle shaped like a fist. On the road, Sandy explains little to Birdie about why they have left or where they’re going; she only reveals that the FBI is after them, and she’s a bit disappointed that no wanted poster appears in the newspapers. By leaving Deck and Cole behind and changing her hair color, she explains to Birdie, she won’t stand out, and the two of them can be different people.
