Book 4, Chapter 46-50 Summary
Baxter feels it is time for their escape attempt. Maureen makes it down the stairs by the altar before anyone notices. Baxter fights with Fitzgerald for the machine gun, as did Father Murphy. Maureen poked Fitzgerald in the eyes and he let go of the gun, which Baxter hits him with. Maureen shoots the lock off the doors but Baxter and Murphy can't open them because they are locked. Maureen is out of ammunition.
Maureen, Baxter and Murphy are brought back to the pew area. Hickey hits Baxter in the head with a blackjack. Gallagher handcuffs Maureen to Baxter and Murphy to the Cardinal. The police are chased out of the sacristy area. John Hickey answers the phone call from an excited Schroeder. Hickey says they don't need a doctor for the hostages or the injured Fitzgerald, but he...
