Summary
Jack and Olla get an invitation to go to dinner at Jack’s friend, Bud, and his wife’s house. It is clear from Fran’s reaction she would rather not go, because she and Jack appear to get along so well that they do not need other people. They aren’t sure what to bring, wine or dessert or bread, and they end up taking a loaf of bread Fran has baked.
When Jack and Fran arrive at Bud and Olla’s house, they are greeted by an enormous screeching peacock. They edge their way into the house. The bird wants to follow them, but Bud keeps it out. Once inside, conversation is a little uncomfortable, because Fran seems a little judgmental and Bud and Olla have a baby and an intimacy that is seems alien to and baffles Jack and...
