Part 3, The Enemy: Chapters 21-23 Summary

In chapter twenty-one, Katniss and the others run from the fog, but they soon realize that it has some chemical properties that are worse than the blisters. Soon their nerves are affected, making it impossible for them to control their limbs. Finnick carries Peeta, who is badly affected, and Katniss carries Mags. However, Katniss cannot hold Mags long and finally collapses. Finnick must chose between Mags and Peeta. Mags turns and walks into the fog rather than force Finnick to make the choice. Finally they reach the water's edge just as the fog begins to recede. Katniss discovers that when she goes into the salt water, the poison from the fog leaves her blisters and she begins to feel better. Katniss shows this to Peeta. Finnick is badly afflicted. Katniss takes the water to him...
