Chapter 9 Summary

Holden arrives at Penn Station in New York. He wants to talk to someone, but when he gets in the phone booth he doesn't know who to call. His brother D.B. is in Hollywood and he can not call his younger sister, Phoebe, because his parents will answer the phone. He walks out and catches a cab. Holden tries to strike up a conversation with the cab driver, even offering to buy him a drink, but the driver isn't interested. Holden checks into a cheap hotel. While looking out the window, he sees a man in another room take off his clothes and put on women's underwear and a black dress.
