Summary
Chapter 11 opens with Sara and Lejla entering what was once Slovenia, now Austria. Lejla and Sara again attempt to bond and reminisce, and the pair stop at a fake lake and artificial lot for lunch. Two little girls play on the fake grass beside them as they eat. As they lunch together and watch the children, Lejla confronts Sara about her retelling of events and claims that she never told Sara to go fuck herself. In fact, Lejla claims that "'You told me, quote, I'm gonna go fuck myself. And then I opened the door and you left. Curtains, end of story'" (211). At this exact moment, one of the little girls starts having a seizure. Lejla sympathizes with the little girl's distraught friend, while Sara imagines how painful the feeling of uselessness must be to every bystander.
