Summary
Lana Bastašić's Catch the Rabbit begins with the first-person narration of Sara, speaking in the present tense to both the reader and her childhood best friend, Lejla. Sara recalls how Lejla was in her childhood and adolescence, claiming that "even now, within this text, I can almost feel her fidget" (1). Sara remembers Lejla as someone who is always moving, taking action, and failing to consider the feelings of her friends, teachers, and community. Twelve years after their friendship ended, Lejla calls Sara out of the blue and tells her that her, "'Armin is in Vienna'" (7). Even though it has been over a decade since the girls have talked, Sara books a flight from Dublin to Zagreb and agrees to pick Lejla up, drive her to Vienna, and pick up Armin.
