Kate Malone
Kate Malone is the protagonist and narrator in Laurie Anderson's novel Catalyst. A senior at Merryweather High School, Kate is eighteen years old, and the daughter of Reverend Jack Malone. Kate is fiercely loyal to her family, and takes care of most of the work around the house, from making sure her brother Toby takes his asthma medication, to making sure the laundry for all three of them is done.
Kate describes herself as both a good girl and a bad girl. As a good girl, the side that everybody sees, she is a reverend's daughter, obedient to her father, loyal to her family, caring, sweet, a scholar, and an athlete.
