Summary
Cat Person tells the story of a one-night-stand between 20-year old Margot and 34-year old Robert. Margot was in her sophomore year at college and worked part-time at a concession stand in an art-house theatre, where she first met Robert. Margot made a joke about Robert deciding to buy a box of Red Vines. The next time Robert visited the theatre, he made another joke about Red Vines and asked Margot (whom at this stage he called “concession stand girl”) for her phone number. Margot gave him her number.
Margot and Robert began texting each other regularly, developing an elaborate series of inside jokes, often including Robert’s pet cats.
