Bullying

Bullying has become a topic of conversation in recent years as people recognize the negative and long-term effects on the victims. The conversations are about the bullies and the fact that victims may never recover. In this novel, Pilkey takes a slightly different stand through characters who find a way to thrive.

Lil' Petey and Molly create a comic about their recurring characters, Squid Kid and Katydid. Both Squid Kid and Katydid are bullied by their peers because they do not fit in. Squid Kid looks different, and Katydid acts different. The two are running away from the bullies when they happen to bump into each other. This chance encounter begins a friendship, and they set out to make changes in the world. Their efforts tighten their bond, making them decide to be “BFFs” from that point.
