Small Acts Can Have Big Effects
Even a small action can create a big change or series of effects. In this novel, a couple of young frogs learn that it does not take a huge act to make a difference that could change the entire world and themselves.
Author and artist Dav Pilkey defines this as the most important theme of this novel. The theme is obvious from the actions and lesson presented by a frog named Poppy, but Pilkey's note about this brings it to the reader's attention. According to Pilkey's note, his idea for this theme came from a Bible verse that says even a large ship that can withstand a storm is turned “with a very small helm” (224). In that scenario, the helm is the small act and the turning of the ship is the big effect.
