Part Five: Cat and Mouse, Chapters 112-124 Summary
Pierce contacts Cross and tells him to come to New Jersey. Mr. Smith has picked a new victim. Cross flies to New Jersey, spending the flight trying to figure out how all of the victims are related. Cross knows there must be something significant about each person, but he cannot figure it out since none of the victims seems to have anything in common. A background check on Pierce's family adds little to Cross's investigation. At the same time, Pierce is delivering his latest victim to the shore where he intends to send the police to find him. Not long after this victim is found, Pierce sends another message to police giving them the name of his next victim. Cross latches on to this name and begins to wonder if this...
