Part Four: Thomas Pierce, Chapters 95-101 Summary
Pierce arrives in Paris and immediately calls the hospital to check on Cross. Cross is still in grave condition. Pierce then works alone for most of the day, as he prefers. That night Mr. Smith contacts the local police and informs them where the victim's body can be found. Pierce arrives to find Sondra Greenburg already there. Pierce, Greenburg, and the local police begin searching for the body. Normally when Mr. Smith contacts the police about a victim, it is easily found. That is not the case this time. After searching for hours, Pierce and Greenburg get simultaneous messages from Mr. Smith telling them that he lied and the body is elsewhere. Mr. Smith also warns them not to trust each other.
