Part Four: Thomas Pierce, Chapters 79-87 Summary
In Paris, the police are investigating the disappearance of a local doctor aware they have little time before Mr. Smith calls to tell them where they can find the body. That same night, Pierce goes to visit Cross, who surprisingly made it through surgery. Cross is not fully conscious, however, and Pierce is unable to get any information out of him. However Pierce does read Cross's medical chart and continues to believe Cross will be dead within a few days. Therefore, Pierce is not surprised when he is told later that night that Cross has fallen into a coma.
