Summary
As Chapter 10 Compromises opens, Lucy notes that Ronald Lui’s has special interest in them, bringing friends and family to Tuin to help G and Lucy find palm thatches to weave together for roofing material. Ronald gives G an old shotgun to restore if possible and keep as protection against crocodiles. A British veteran of the Korean War, G is as familiar with firearms as with machinery, and has the gun in working order by the next day, when he bags two wild fowl for supper., G is in high spirits after the successful hunt and suggests that he might stay on Tuin when the agreed-upon year is over and he has finished his novel, asking Lucy if she might consider staying too. She responds that she has not thought that far ahead, and G lets the matter drop...
