Summary

Phase II of Castaway, Being Away, opens with Chapter 5, Schism. In the peace and belonging she finds in her solitude, Lucy feels as if she and the island are intimately connected. While she is troubled to see G in such pain, she is happy he can focus on writing his novel without worrying about his legs. One hot, cloudless day, Lucy notices two unfamiliar white shapes out a distance on the waves, and before she can process the sight, two handsome, tanned young Australian youths are landing their catamarans on the beach in front of her.
