Cassandra Penelope Dankworth is the first-person narrator and protagonist in Cassandra in Reverse. At the outset of the narrative, Cassandra is dumped by her boyfriend Will and fired from her job. As she leaves the office with a box of her belongings, she feels overstimulated and panicked and curls into a ball on the sidewalk. That evening, she is shocked when Will shows up at her flat for a date. As the evening progresses, she realizes that he has no recollection of their date from the previous day or breaking up with her.
