Summary

Chapter 1 – Each September, Simon Snow makes his way to the magical school of Watford, where he is now in his eighth year. In Chapter 1, Simon thinks about the magical abilities of himself and others, such as Penelope “Penny” Bunce. She is always focused and easily able to draw on magic. However, Agatha is never focused and does not like to talk about her magic. Simon’s best friend, Baz, describes magic like pulling a trigger or lighting a match. Simon himself is powerful enough for people to sense his magic. He draws on immense amounts of magic at unexpected times.
