Carrie Soto
Carrie is the daughter of Javier, a coach who focuses solely on her career from the time she can hold a racket. Her mother, Alicia, believes it is more important to be happy and kind than to be a good tennis player. Alicia dies when Carrie is very young, meaning Carrie grows up without her influence. That absence, leaving Carrie entirely in Javier's care, has a tremendous effect on Carrie's life. She senses she is missing something when she sees other children interacting with their mothers, but she also feels other kids are missing out on this purposeful life she shares with her father.
