The Importance of Color

Colors play an important role in Scarlett's life to the point that she sees color in association with emotions and that colors give her impressions about the people and events she encounters. One of the most important aspects of this theme is seen when Scarlett has a few moments during which she cannot see colors. Her world is generally filled with color, but during those few moments, she sees in black and white except for a couple of items that are colored red. The roses and the Carousel of Roses are a major example of the color that remains when everything else is black and white, and Scarlett realizes the carousel is a passage to another place, which is a major clue of the game.
