Summary

Chapter 1 opens with a series of letters Scarlett has written to Legend, the man who runs a game called Caraval, spanning several years and totaling seven letters. She asks Legend to bring the game to her home on Trisda, saying she knows he was there decades earlier, but hopes he will make a return trip. In the final letter, Scarlett says she is about to be married, and that it would be best if he does not come. She gets a reply to the final letter, inviting Scarlett to join the game and including three tickets.
