Explain the significance of Emerald Isle to the Sedaris family.
Emerald Isle is where the Sedaris family holidayed every year when they were children, and they always dreamed of owning a beach house there. However, they stopped going for many years after their mother died and only return when David makes the pointed effort to get them together there and to finally buy the beach house. As such, trips to Emerald Isle represent their identity as a family as it was always their mother to held them together and now David is taking on that role after her death and bringing them back together regularly in a place with happy memories.
