Importance: After Everardo's accident, Lena is desperate to help her daughter Turtle and her grandson Ever. She particularly fears that Ever will be scarred after witnessing his father's brutal beating at the hands of border patrol policemen. She then comes up with the idea to make Ever a healing quilt. Shortly thereafter, she decides to make similar quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As per her idea in this scene, Lena's many handmade quilts ultimately keep her family together. They are a physical manifestation of the Geimausaddle's ancestral ties and traditions.
