Summary
Elio returned to the family villa. His mother and the housekeeper had already restored his bedroom to how it was before. Elio went to sleep and dreamt about Oliver. When he awoke later that day he went into the garden and saw Vimini. They went down to the beach together. Vimini told Elio that Marzia was upset with him for going to Rome without telling her. Vimini was upset that Oliver had left without saying goodbye to her.
After dinner, Oliver rang to say that he had arrived safely in New York. Oliver and Elio promised they would write to each other and maybe see each other again at Christmas. Oliver told Elio that he had stolen something from his room. Later, Elio noticed that he had taken a postcard that had been given to him by another of their summer guests two years...
