Summary

In Chapter 20, in the present, Paul receives a call from Agnes saying Warren is in the hospital. The cancer has spread and Warren seems to realize he will die. A few days later, Paul receives a call from Warren. Warren tries to pretend he is feeling better, but Paul hears his voice fading. At the end of the conversation, Warren asks about the trip to Arkansas. He said he likes the idea even though he is not sure his doctors will approve.

In Chapter 21, in Calico Rock, Warren and Paul meet Clarence at the newspaper office. They drive across town to the field where Joe is mowing. Even though Charlie and Red have not confirmed if Joe will talk to Warren, Warren says he will feel better just having tried to connect.
