Ketchup is a symbol of intimidation. When Eric first sees Hallenback, he is covered in ketchup and running as if he is fleeing for his life. Eric puts together later that Griffin and his friends had been bullying Hallenback and Hallenback managed to get away from them.

Ball

The ball is a symbol of a challenge. Griffin and his friends find Eric practicing basketball and ask if he has seen Hallenback. Eric claims that he has not. Griffin turns his attention to Eric and asks Eric to give him his basketball. He is testing Eric to see how he will respond to his taunting.
