Basketball Court

Eric is practicing shots at a basketball court when he first encounters Griffin and his gang. Eric saw Hallenback run past him as if he were fleeing from someone. He realized that Griffin and the others had been bullying Hallenback. Griffin gauges how Eric will react to him by asking Eric if he can have his basketball. As Griffin is leaving, he warns Eric that he is a good friend, but a bad enemy.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria is the place where interactions between students are most obvious. Eric sits by himself at a table, but Griffin approaches Eric and tells him to come and sit with him and his friends. Later, when Eric tells Hallenback that Griffin is a bad kid, Hallenback temporarily earns Eric’s seat at Griffin’s table. Eric and Mary sit by themselves at another table where they joke that they are misfits...
