Summary
In Chapter 12, Dax and Autumn move back to the main floor of the library to sleep because it is slightly warmer there. Autumn begins to laugh when Dax points out that he can brush his teeth in the girls' restroom where Autumn left the toothpaste. She giggles for a long time and admits that she tends to laugh uncontrollably when she is tired, hyper, happy, or nervous. Dax lets Autumn have the sleeping bag but she has trouble settling in to sleep. She presents the idea of forming their own government and laws for the “library world” where they live. Autumn says they have to play games, such as poker, and that they have to read. Dax says they should have no rules, and Autumn says that will be their third rule, which makes Dax laugh.
