Summary
In Chapter 7, Autumn opens Dax's bag and finds items including extra clothes, some protein bars, toothpaste, and a flip phone. While she is trying to turn it on, Dax enters and says the phone is dead and has no minutes available. He is clearly annoyed that Autumn went through his things. Over the course of the rest of that conversation, Dax reveals that he lives with foster parents, that they “let me come and go as I please and I don't turn them in for the weed they grow in the basement” (52). He says this is a relatively good situation for him. Autumn says she is sorry, which prompts Dax to become defensive. Autumn takes his toothpaste to the bathroom and tries to reassure herself that she will be okay, even if she has to spend the entire weekend here.
