Summary
After the hailstorm, Cora lets Hằng stay with her and David, tending to her while she recovers. Eventually, in preparation for the trip to the market, Cora gives Hằng a haircut and designs her an outfit that will allow her to cover up the red marks she is so afraid of showing. When Hằng sees herself in the mirror, she panics; Bà always warned her that beauty led to danger. Eventually, though, she calms herself, and is comforted when Cora reassures her that there is nothing wrong with being pretty.
