Bus Stop was made into a popular Hollywood film in 1956. It was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award Best Supporting Actor nomination for Don Murray. The National Board of Review Awards selected Bus Stop one of the ten best films in 1956. Marilyn Monroe starred as Cherie, and many critics consider it to be her best film performance.
