Summary
In pages 142 - 184, Antara recounts her memories from 1993. She and Tara moved into an apartment outside the ashram. Antara began attending a new school. Feeling alienated, she began hiding in books and drawing. One day she woke with a missing eyebrow. When Antara hid her face with her hair, Tara criticized her appearance. Antara knew she "was talking about herself" (143). Antara later shaved the other eyebrow, worsening how she felt about herself.
At a point Antara has difficulty remembering, they received news of Baba's death. Antara was embarrassed by Tara's grief. They fought violently.
Meanwhile, Antara stopped eating again. She felt perpetually. Sometimes she punctuated these fasts by gorging herself. At a restaurant with Tara one day, the waiter commented on Antara’s voracious appetite. He introduced himself as Reza Pine.
In 1995, Antara turned 13. Her body became foreign. She was perpetually hungry, eating...
