Summary

In pages 48 - 93, during breakfast with Tara, Antara asks why she told Dilip she was a liar. Tara pretends not to know what she is talking about. Forgetting suddenly seems convenient to Antara (50). Tara thinks Antara should worry about her own problems. Their argument becomes familiarly frustrating. To Antara, they have "always been alone" in the messy world of their relationship (52).

Dilip decides to become a vegetarian. Antara confesses her childhood tendency towards animal violence. Dilip seems unmoved, revealing that he is a Jain, a religious group notorious for being "extreme vegetarians" (55). Dilip thinks it is a calling; Antara scoffs.

Antara recounts her earliest memory "of a giant in a pyramid" (57). While living in the ashram, she watched the congregation engage in curious ceremonies. Antara is scared of the giant, trying to imitate Tara's fearlessness. Tara became quickly absorbed in the ceremony. Antara...
