Chapter 41-45 Summary

In chapter 41 Anita and Larry arrive at the scene and are met by Detective Tammy Reynolds, a witch and Larry's girlfriend. Anita leaves Larry with Tammy and finds Dolph and Pete, along with the fire department commander, Captain Fulton. The authorities want Anita to determine if the vampires in the basement are alive and if they can be saved, as the floor of the structure may collapse due to the fire. Fulton is not happy about dealing with vamps as his wife and daughter were taken by vampires, but he will do his job.

In chapter 42 Anita speaks with Caroline, the human assistant for the halfway house. Caroline is frightened, worried that the vampires will waken early and out of control. Caroline informs Anita that since the council has arrived the vampires have been waking before sundown and have been hungry...
